Yeah, the funny thing is all the rest was so much more work. But you're right, the facial change brings it home. Comparison picture with the original smile.
I'm a complete amateur, so I don't photoshop very goal-oriented and my process consists of a lot of trial and error and this one took me all in all probably about an hour to an hour and a half. When I was finally done and was trying to think of a good title, it came to me that he shouldn't be smiling. Changing the smile was maybe a minute of work but it really does something for the whole image.
I guess the devil really is in the detail.
