u mean three

u mean four

Three is correct. The award for best foreign movie is credited to the country that submitted it.

Which is stupid, makes no sense and we, the public, shouldn't give a fuck about who the Oscars acredit it to. He has 4.

He still accepted it, did he not?

Plus his name will be etched on that particular Oscar, whether or not he gets to keep it.

And he earned it. It's his, regardless.

That may have changed this year since they changed the category from "Best Foreign Language Film" to "Best International Feature Film." I know in past years they have just said the name of the country and the name of the film when the nominee list was read, and I feel like this year they said the name of the Filmmaker and the name of the Film, not the country. But I'm not certain about that.

He earned it, accepted it, and his name is on it. I'd say it's just as much his.

I can't believe it either. I totally expected the Academy to vote for an American film, like when they voted for Big Hero 6 over the Tale of the Princess Kaguya a few years back as Best Animated Feature.

Well, the people that vote in the oscars did admit that they mostly vote on what their children liked more or havent watched any of them according to a Hollywood Reporter article and not on artistic merit. Hence why The Lego Movie wasnt even nominated that year, so its safe to assume they dont care for animation other than entertainment value.

I'm still super bitter about that. That Kaguya animation style was just so so unique and it lost to a generic robot 3D movie just because it was Disney.

I really disagree that 6 was a 'generic robot movie'. It was deep and soulful. Dealing with all the shades of grief and loss, its really not about Baymax at all

Agreed. I don’t even understand what he meant with ‘generic robot movie’, it would have made much more sense if he said ‘generic hero movie’ instead.
Seeing Hiro go through grief and loss was pretty new in Disney and having Baymax around him and taking care of him was wholesome as well.

Disney love grief, they kill off characters quite readily. But I don't feel they really dealt with it as intuitively before. Baymax is basically Tadashi in a squishy inflatable skin.
I'd say a generic robot movie is focused on the robots progress and the blunders along the way. The people around it are secondary elements. Big Hero 6 is about people, about bonds and support and love. And Baymax is a conduit for the really sentimental stuff so it's not patronising and mushy.

Can't believe how I forgot so many movies that had deaths. Lion King, Brother Bear, Up and probably more. But yeah, BH6 focused on Hiro's loss way more if I remember correctly.

And Callaghans
(Should I spoiler tag that? Surely it's been out long enough)

I feel you haven’t even watched BH6 because you called it a generic robot movie.
